salitter workings is an art project--a social sculpture--exploring the possibilities for affecting actual, concrete positive change in a predatory media ecology, without having any money or connections.
the walls have been viscerally closing in, the state of the world feels terminal. who is it that is making a mockery of humanity? the only hope is seeing where the map diverges from the territory. this project involves extensively breaking the law, because positive change will only be affected by doing so.
physical books offer alternative means of circulation: ones where the far-from-elected custodians of art and culture, and the carnivorous engineers of our deliberately degenerated cybernetics, have no points to invite themselves in. used bookstores and rogue libraries offer humane access points for cultural access and propagation.
these are not half-assed bootlegs. a lot of effort and love has gone into making editions that our perfectionist assess thoroughly enjoyed reading and capture onlooker attention through peripheral vision. we often put a considerable amount of effort into re-typesetting forgotten books, fixing errors that $200 second-hand copies are laden with. the facsimile editions have been extensively cleaned up and often have playful embellishments or additional illustrations.
the point is to take intriguing, relevant, valuable works that the free hand of the market has erased from history or prohibited access to, and restore availability in a way that preserves the uniqueness of each work.
prices have historically had a small profit margin to keep us alive and because i was struggling to find a "pay what you want" model. pdfs of our "remasters" (or whatever) are freely available, along with the covers so you can print them yourself. this is an art project, not a corporation or a store, but support is greatly appreciated.
