the peak of tony duvert's popularity, winning him the prix medicis in 1973 and getting an english translation out on grove press, which never gets reprinted. the french left continues to deradicalize and duvert dies in isolation. it takes anyone a month for them to find his corpse. this hasnt prevented us from receiving a cease and desist from the french re: translation rights over this book though!!! lol
this is a really stunning dream-logic fugue of boyhood sexuality and violence. brings to mind "how it is"-era beckett while being a plausible precursor to dennis cooper. an environment of abjection and cruelty makes the little moments of sweetness that much richer.
i also ended up in a trance where i 'illustrated' this with a series of digital collages, sampling manga artbooks and doujins. wow!
